The bodies of Sylvie Desilets, a 31-year-old middle school teacher, and her husband, Ajit Chordia, 33, were discovered Monday evening at a Woburn apartment complex after a downstairs neighbor heard muffled gun shots and called police.
The neighbor, a retired police officer, reported seeing blood dripping from his ceiling about 20 minutes after the shots were fired, Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley said.

Desilets had been shot three to four times in the head and torso with a semiautomatic handgun, while Chordia had one apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, she said.
Desilets was a Canadian who'd moved to Woburn three years ago to teach French and Spanish at Daniel Joyce Middle School. Her husband worked for a financial institution in Burlington, but Coakley didn't name the company.
Woburn Superintendent Carl Batchelder called Desilets a dedicated teacher who often stayed late to work with students.
"Sylvie was the kind of teacher that every parent would love to have," he said.

In January 2004, Alyssa Presti, a seventh-grader at the same school, was stabbed to death along with her mother in their Woburn home. Convicted sex offender Michael J. Bizanowicz is awaiting trial on murder charges in a case that prompted lawmakers to push for closer monitoring of sex offenders.
"This is just deja vu," Woburn Police Chief Philip Mahoney said. "These things just rip you apart."
Coakley said Desilets and her husband were separated and had begun divorce proceedings. Until Monday, friends and relatives believed the split was amicable, Coakley said.
"Nobody would have predicted this from what we can tell," she added.
Chordia didn't leave a suicide note, but investigators suspect he began plotting the murder-suicide after he looked on his wife's computer and found evidence that she'd been dating someone she met online.
"Whether that was the motive or not, I can't say," Coakley said. "It's somewhat speculation, but at this time there's no other reason he would have planned this."
Since the separation, Chordia had been living in the apartment where the shooting took place and Desilets had been staying with a fellow teacher in Stoneham. Chordia had closed his bank accounts and told his wife he planned to move out of the country, possibly to England.

Police had been to the apartment once before, in 2002, when they were investigating a 911 hang-up and found the couple had been arguing over taxes.
"It was basically a very minor thing," Mahoney said.
Desilets' co-workers were told of her death Monday night. Grief counselors were meeting with faculty members and students on Tuesday.
"They're very upset," Batchelder said. "(But) everyone to a person wanted to make sure that today was as normal a day for the students at Joyce Middle School as possible."
Desilets' death marks the second time in less than a week that a Massachusetts teacher has been killed, allegedly by a family member.
Nickoletta Staszewski, a teacher at Newburyport's Rupert A. Nock Middle School, was found stabbed to death in her Brentwood, N.H., home last Thursday. Her 21-year-old son has been charged with murder.
