Make Marriage Work Overview:
Making any marriage work lies in the hands of married couples. Couples who want their marriage to work out well should:
? Avoid criticism and humiliation. Criticising and humiliating your spouse will only lead to more and more problems.
? Express your needs. When you really need something from your partner, express it kindly.
? Be thoughtful. When you no longer show how much you care, your spouse might find someone else who?s thoughtful enough. So, start doing those caring behaviours once again.
? Let go. When your needs are not met, you usually resort to other areas like affairs, alcohol, drugs and the like. Discuss with your partner on how you can commit to let everything go.
? Discern on who you are and what you need. You have to recognize yourself as who you are, so you can easily express your needs to your spouse.
? Understand that you are annexed to your partner and vice-versa. Both you and your partner have different personalities. Thus, you can?t force your partner to do or see things the way you want them to.
? Avoid letting rage rule over your actions. When a spouse is mad, do not react with rage.
? Be a good listener. Make your spouse feel that you have heard them. This allows them to respond positively and do more things for you. It also makes them feel that you are showing them respect.
? Receive your spouse?s effort to resolve an issue. When conflicts arise, your spouse exerts an effort to resolve the problem. Receive his efforts with open arms.
? Be the spouse you want to have. Ask yourself, ?If I were my partner, what kind of spouse would he want me to be??. Then try doing it the way you would want him to be.
